Hamburg (dpa / lno) - Hamburg's CDU state chairman Christoph Ploß has warned that the relationship between the sister parties of the Union could be damaged by the K question.

"The decision on the candidate for chancellor must therefore be made and coordinated together," he told the German press agency on Sunday.

"Anything else would permanently damage the relationship between the Union parties."

Everyone in the CDU and the CSU must be clear in the year of the federal election: "Only if we are closed will we contest a successful election campaign," said the 35-year-old member of the Bundestag, who is running again in the September election.

The chairmen of the CDU and CSU - North Rhine-Westphalia's Prime Minister Armin Laschet and Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder - both declared on Sunday that they were ready to take up the candidacy for chancellor for the Union.
