The Government Delegation in the Canary Islands has estimated at
four the number of deceased immigrants
in the cayuco located this Sunday about 120 miles south of the island of El Hierro, while another sixteen have been evacuated in very serious or serious condition by helicopter to Tenerife.
The first information that the Government Delegation had received, and that Efe published, assured that the rescuers of the first helicopter had seen that a large part of the occupants of the cayuco were not moving and at least 11 seemed inert.
The boat was located this Sunday morning by a fishing boat that was sailing through the area and threw water and cookies into the cayuco, while
warning for its rescue
and remained in the area until the arrival of emergency teams, Salvamento reported.
In the cayuco there were 23 sub-Saharan immigrants on board: the four corpses, six that were in very bad condition and were first evacuated in a helicopter, another 10 with different severity and were transferred by a second helicopter, and three more immigrants who will be picked up by a helicopter from the Air Rescue Service (SAR).
The Salvamar Adhara boat continues sailing towards the cayuco, where the four dead immigrants are found.
These four deceased people bring to 47 the count of victims of the Canarian Route since the beginning of 2021.
