According to the latest data from Public Health France published on Sunday, France has 98,750 deaths from Covid-19 since the start of the epidemic in the country.

At the hospital, patients continue to flow with more than 400 additional people taken care of on Sunday compared to Saturday.

More than 5,800 patients are in intensive care.

The number of Covid-19 patients hospitalized in intensive care continued to increase, climbing to 5,838, the highest for nearly a year, according to figures released Sunday by Public Health France.

This indicator, which had not been so high since April 18, 2020, should increase further in the coming days.

"The pressure remains very strong and the number of intensive care admissions will continue to increase for several days, as we know," the Minister of Health, Olivier Véran, told the JDD, while hoping that "the braking measures "allow" to avoid reaching the peak of the first wave ", that is to say 7,000 patients in sheaves on April 7 and 8, 2020.

The peaks of the first and second waves not far from being reached concerning hospitalizations

At present, the capacity of resuscitation services in French hospitals has been increased to 8,000 beds, all pathologies combined.

The total number of people hospitalized with a Covid-19 diagnosis on Sunday remains above the 30,000 mark (30,671), not far from the peaks of the first (32,000) and the second epidemic wave of the fall.

Sunday, Public Health France recorded 176 deaths of more Covid-19 patients in the last 24 hours, a very slight decrease compared to last Sunday (185), but higher than two weeks earlier.

In total, the death toll since the start of the epidemic has risen to 98,750, the vast majority of them elderly, more vulnerable to the virus.

"We are around 40,000 daily cases"

After a week of closure of schools, France began this weekend two weeks of confined vacation.

Even before the application of these measures, the virus continued to progress but less rapidly, Public Health France said in its weekly bulletin on Friday.

But "today, we are around 40,000 daily cases. It remains very high," said Olivier Véran to the JDD, hoping that "after stabilization will come the decline".
