Kamp-Bornhofen (dpa) - Two men were killed in a serious car accident on federal highway 42 in the Rhein-Lahn district south of Koblenz.

Three others suffered serious injuries.

As the police announced on Sunday night, the car had come off the lane and crashed head-on against a wall of a railway underpass.

The car was then thrown against a guardrail and stopped on the main road between Kamp-Bornhofen and Kestert.

Firefighters freed the seriously injured from the destroyed car on Saturday evening.

The ambulance took them to clinics.

The vehicle occupants between the ages of 24 and 41 come from the Rhein-Lahn district and from municipalities in Hesse.

It was initially unclear why the car came off the main road.

Other vehicles were apparently not involved in the accident, it said.
