Berlin (dpa) - The Berlin Volleys have come a good deal closer to winning the German volleyball championship.

The capital club won the second game of the final series against VfB Friedrichshafen on Sunday in the empty Max-Schmeling-Halle with 3: 0 (25:22, 25:17, 25:23) and is now 2: 0 in the lead.

Coach Cedric Enard's team could already win their eleventh title in the third game of the “Best of five” series on Lake Constance on Thursday.

The guests had to do without their middle blocker Nehemiah Mote because of shoulder problems.

In the volleys, Cody Kessel was preferred to Timothee Carle in the external attack.

The first movement was balanced for a long time.

In the end, Benjamin Patch managed the decisive break for Berliners with an ace to 21:19.

The barely won first round gave the hosts enormous self-confidence.

The team clearly dominated the second section.

The BR Volleys had a clear overweight in serve as well as in field acceptance and block defense.

In addition, Friedrichshafen found no means to disturb the circles of the dazzling American Patch.

The hosts remained highly concentrated even after leading the set 2-0.

They did not let themselves be disturbed by a 4: 6 deficit at the beginning of the third set.

With an ace from Samuel Tuia, the volleys defeated with 13: 9.

At 17:10, however, the Berliners got into a phase of weakness that made the outcome of the game exciting again.

A service error by VfB ultimately brought the decision.
