The UAE stresses the importance of representing the Arab voice during its membership in the Security Council

The UAE stressed, during a briefing by the Arab group to the United Nations, the importance of representing the Arab voice during its membership in the Security Council, in the various issues on its agenda, especially those related to the Arab region, in line with the Arab consensus.

During the official virtual briefing, the Minister of State Khalifa Shaheen Al-Marar reviewed the priorities of the UAE in the Security Council for the period 2022-2023, which are preceded by the stability of the Arab region, stressing that the UAE will continue to build on the relentless efforts it has made. Sister Arab countries that were previously members of the Council, and will seek to break the deadlock in some political processes and to give the international community a firm Arab voice that does not hesitate to defend its causes.

Al-Marr referred to a set of challenges facing many Arab countries, and the accompanying serious humanitarian crises and the spread of extremism and terrorism, as well as the exacerbation of the difficult economic and health conditions due to the Covid-19 pandemic. "Comprehensive and just Arab crises is not an easy matter, and that there are many challenges that impede reaching such solutions, but we realize at the same time that we can work collectively to push the Security Council to assume its responsibilities and work seriously towards finding real solutions to Arab issues."

Al-Marar referred to the main pillars of the campaign for the UAE’s candidacy for the Security Council, which bears the slogan «Stronger in our Union», namely achieving peace and security, promoting inclusiveness and joint action, encouraging peaceful resolution of disputes while supporting mediation efforts, and building resilience in the face of new security threats such as change Climate, epidemics, etc., and stimulating innovation to establish peace and security, stressing that the UAE will work with high ambition and intense effort to add a new perspective to the Council, including putting forward innovative and practical ideas to make progress on the issues at hand.

Al-Marr concluded his briefing to the Arab group, stressing that the UAE is looking forward to supporting the group not only during its election campaign for the Council, but also during its presence in the Council, stressing at the same time that the UAE will continue to work with the Arab group, consult with its members and inform them of the latest developments in the Council.

During the meeting, the Arab group welcomed the passer, confirming in an interactive dialogue its positions on the issues discussed in his briefing, and its support for the UAE during the election campaign and the term of membership in the Security Council.
