There is a crisis of midwives this summer in Västerbotten and pregnant women in Umeå may be forced to travel about 130 km to Skellefteå or Lycksele to give birth.

This has sparked discussions about how far one should go to give birth.

Iza Vahlström has calculated the delivery date in five weeks and has three hours one way to the birth in Lycksele.

Hear how she thinks about it in the video above.

It really is NOT fun to drive a car with aches !!

So a maximum of 30 minutes I think is reasonable.

Have given birth both in Stockholm on BB 25 min travel time, + 1 planned home birth which ended on BB 25 min travel time (va there for 40 minutes).

And the last child in Jämtland, with 1 h 45 min to BB.

For me, 0 meters is reasonable.

Keeps me facing the boundaries of the home / out around the home.

I do not want to disturb the natural process and the sensitive process of giving birth.

It is completely unreasonable to have to travel more than half an hour.

But even more reasonable is that the midwife (s) who are not in the sensitive process come to the mother.

Are the people of Umeå upset in the same way about closing the emergency room in Malå at night?

Emergencies are just as important to take care of, right?

I suffer both with pregnancy in Umeå as well as the emergency cases in Malå, but it is strange that the debate only concerns Umeå.

The Västerbotten region must be the country's worst employer.

How long will the hospital be classified as a university hospital? Personnel policy is under all criticism and patient safety is only getting worse and worse.

Winsa with the entire management should be dismissed immediately.

Yes, the Green Party, what do you think here?

You burden motoring with one tax after another, under the pretext that you should reduce driving.

At the same time, you do not protest when the people of Norrland are FORCED to drive horribly far just to get access to healthcare.

When it comes to childbirth, it is usually not a car that makes the trip, one or more times, because men for natural reasons often come later.

The state seems to be very bothered that people live in Norrland.

Can think that they get acid reflux, now that several large companies are establishing themselves there, to secure their electricity supply.

The need for labor is so great that people have to be brought in from the southern parts of the country.

How do you politicians think that midwives and other healthcare should cope with the increased burden, when there is a crisis and breakdown already now?

Let the midwives find their way back to the beauty of the profession!

Give them a better opportunity to come to the birth instead of the other way around!

A maternity ward in a hospital is definitely needed for those with risk factors, but for a woman giving birth and a baby without a risk factor, it is safer to give birth at home!

You do not move a cow that gives birth!

Let the mothers and midwives choose!

More options are needed.

Midwives, Small birth centers so the distances for the mothers are reduced and as maternity clinics as today with special expertise when needed!

I do not feel safe moving outside the door of the home!

There are so many who write that it is common for Skellefteborg residents to go to Umeå for treatment.

A planned period of care is not the same as a spontaneous birth.

Of course, no one should have to travel far to receive care, but it is obvious that pregnant women who are forced to travel far during childbirth receive more attention - it is, after all, a completely different thing than a normal planned care period.

That we have to travel far to give birth is probably never good, but it is strange that it is always so far from Umeå to a place inland but never the other way around
