Paderborn (dpa / lnw) - The joyride of two underage boys (13 and 14 years old) with a previously stolen car was stopped by a police officer from Paderborn.

The police officer, who was traveling privately, noticed a small car on Thursday afternoon, in which apparently two minors were sitting in the driver and front passenger seats.

They drove from a commuter parking lot and accelerated strongly, the police said.

When the car turned, a walker with a dog had to jump aside to avoid being hit.

When the car stopped a little later on a dirt road, the officer spoke to the boys.

At the wheel was a 14-year-old boy, next to him a 13-year-old.

They said the car was parked in the commuter parking lot and that they found the car key on one of the wheels.

Without further ado, they decided to take a jaunt.

Why the car with the key was in the parking lot is still under investigation.

The boys were brought home and the parents informed.

Criminal proceedings are ongoing against the 14-year-old on suspicion of being a hazard to traffic and driving without a license.
