Berlin (dpa) - Federal Minister of Economics Peter Altmaier (CDU) sees the need to catch up for shorter approval procedures after the criticism of the electric car manufacturer Tesla.

Much has been achieved in the past months and years of the grand coalition, said Altmaier on Friday in Berlin.

"But not enough."

There is certainly still a lot of room for improvement.

"We all wanted Tesla to make this investment in Brandenburg," said Altmaier.

"Wherever there will be problems, where it becomes apparent, I am of course ready to look for solutions together with Brandenburg, together with Tesla."

Altmaier added: “In the past few months we have been able to clear up problems more than once, even on short official channels.

And I am convinced that we will also succeed in the future.

Among other things, Tesla had complained that 16 months after the application there was still no schedule for a final approval of the construction of its factory in Grünheide near Berlin.

The biggest problem is that procedures and laws treat projects that fight climate change and those that accelerate it equally.
