Foreign media reported that the Myanmar Military Court sentenced 19 people to death for murdering soldiers.

According to foreign media reports, those sentenced to death were handed over to trial on the 27th of last month, ``Myanmar Army Day,'' for attacking two military personnel with swords and clubs, killing one and hurting the other.

Foreign media say it is believed to be the first death sentence imposed after martial law was proclaimed in Myanmar in the middle of last month, and a felony crime was handled in a military court.

In addition, foreign media reports that appeals to the superior court are not allowed and that only Supreme Commander Min Aung Hlaing can overturn the death sentence and commute the sentence.

In Myanmar, it is said that for the past 30 years, there have been only death sentences and no executions.

Myanmar's human rights group, the Political Offender Support Association, says 614 people, including 48 children, have been killed by the military and police since the coup.

However, Myanmar military officials insisted that 248 people have been killed so far, including 16 military and policemen.
