Chemnitz (dpa) - The head national coach Sven Lang expects a successful appearance of the German discus and javelin throwers as well as the shot put at the Olympic Games in Tokyo.

“First of all, our women and men have to qualify.

I expect 14 to 16 athletes to do this, although the norms are not there in passing, ”said the 58-year-old in an interview with the Chemnitz-based“ Free Press ”(Friday).

"If we then win three medals in Tokyo, that would be a realistic goal from today's perspective."

The javelin throwers around ex-world champion Johannes Vetter (Offenburg) and Olympic champion Thomas Röhler (Jena) as well as European champion Christin Hussong (Zweibrücken) have the greatest chances of success.

"A lot can succeed in the other disciplines, but some things can also go wrong," said Lang, who has been responsible for all throwing and pushing disciplines from the German Athletics Association (DLV) since the beginning of the year.

In the shot put, the two ex-world champions Christina Schwanitz (LV 90 Erzgebirge) and David Storl (Leipzig) would have the best chances of qualifying for the Tokyo Games.

"Christina Schwanitz should push the necessary 18.50 meters without any problems," said Lang.

"For the men, I only see David Storl as a promising candidate to achieve the required 21.10 meters."
