Hamburg (dpa / lno) - Despite the holiday season, the number of passengers at Hamburg Airport rose only slightly over the Easter holidays.

Around 5500 passengers arrived or departed on average per day, as the airport announced on Friday.

Most of the travelers were out on Maundy Thursday.

More than 6850 passengers used Hamburg Airport that day.

Overall, travel continued to be low.

According to its own information, the airport only recorded around twelve percent of the passengers from the same period in 2019 over Easter.

Air traffic was still heavily dependent on the travel restrictions caused by the corona pandemic.

According to the information, around 80 direct destinations are currently offered from Hamburg - including the popular holiday island of Mallorca.

However, travelers returning from abroad are only allowed to fly after a negative Corona test.

They have to submit the test to the respective airline abroad by May 12th.
