Mannheim (dpa / lsw) - Two men from the Mannheim area have become victims of blackmailers after erotic video chats.
According to the police on Friday, they met women on the Internet who made them undress.
The men then received an email requesting them to pay thousands of euros - otherwise the nude photos should be forwarded to friends.
While one man did not respond and filed a complaint, the other transferred hundreds of euros and then went to the police.
The transfer had not yet been carried out and could have been stopped, it said.
The police warned that sexual blackmail is very common on the Internet and that men are the main victims.
The police in Heidelberg registered 69 cases in Mannheim, Heidelberg and the Rhein-Neckar district last year.
The clearance rate is extremely low.
Most of the time the masterminds are organized in gangs and operate from abroad.
According to the findings of the Heidelberg investigators, the previous traces lead to Africa.
