The ball is now in the government's court.

Prime Minister Jean Castex has received the opinions of all the political parties, which overwhelmingly plead for the election to be maintained.

The executive has only a few days to choose.

Maintaining regional elections is the government's “preferred scenario”.

This is also what almost all of the parties from the National Rally to the Marchers are asking, including The Republicans and the rebellious France.

Only François Bayrou's Modem and the President of the National Assembly Richard Ferrand - two close to Emmanuel Macron - are in favor of postponing the ballot to October, a few more months to carry out a “

normal electoral campaign

 ”.

The government will deliver its decision next week during a debate in Parliament on Tuesday and Wednesday.

First option:

postpone the regional

, synonymous with political outcry.

The executive would be accused of sitting on democracy.

The second option would be to maintain the ballot but it is also to take the risk of seeing the French avoid the polling stations for fear of the virus as in the

municipal elections of March 2020

.

Emmanuel Macron and Jean Castex are stuck between two bad solutions.

It is also for lack of having anticipated the poll.

In one year, nothing has been done to facilitate access to the ballot boxes in times of a pandemic, such as voting by mail or by Internet.
