Kiel (dpa / lno) - The environmental association BUND has vehemently criticized the draft of the Kiel state government for a new energy transition and climate protection law and called for several improvements.

The amendment to the law contains improvements, but the 1.5-degree target set by Paris to limit the rise in temperature due to the greenhouse effect cannot be achieved, said BUND Vice-President Carl-Heinz Christiansen on Friday.

"The Jamaica coalition is still baking far too small buns when it comes to climate protection," said country manager Ole Eggers.

"We have to be climate neutral by 2035 at the latest in order to make a significant contribution to limiting climate change as a country between the seas."

The goal of a reduction of 80 percent by 2050 envisaged in the draft by Green Minister Jan Philipp Albrecht is far from sufficient for this.

In its official statement, the BUND mentions many points, some of which it still sees a lot of catching up to do.

For example, the target year 2050 for a climate-neutral municipal heating supply is far too late.

When it comes to mobility, the proposals on climate protection are more than inadequate to usher in a traffic turnaround.

A central demand of the BUND is an immediate moratorium on the new construction and expansion of roads.

This should apply until there is a binding mobility plan that ensures compliance with the climate protection goals.

"Many building measures were decided years and decades ago and are no longer in keeping with the times," said Christiansen.
