Kiel (dpa / lno) - The SPD in the Kiel state parliament is concerned about the development of politically motivated acts of violence by the right.

There is a significant increase here, said the group spokesman against right-wing extremism, Tobias von Pein.

The Interior Ministry's response to a small inquiry from the politician revealed that the number of cases had increased from 21 to 37 in the past year.

Often it was a question of bodily harm, which was classified under the categories of hate crime and xenophobic racism.

"The number of officially registered violent crimes has almost doubled, whereby one must assume an unreported number," said von Pein.

The majority of the attacked are foreigners and Germans with a migration background.

"So there can be no all-clear," said the SPD politician.

The authorities and civil society must remain vigilant.

"In view of the massive increase in counseling and support for victims, we must attach even more importance."
