Dresden (dpa / sn) - Saxony's Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer (CDU) has confirmed the Free State's interest in the Russian Sputnik V vaccine.

Only when the majority of the people have been vaccinated will they be able to return to normal, he said on Thursday when asked in Dresden: "Therefore, we should also use all available vaccines."

Kretschmer thinks it is right for the federal government to take over the negotiations on vaccines.

The prime minister emphasized that the safety of the vaccines and approval by the European Medicines Agency are a basic requirement.

Russia is a great country of science.

He has not the slightest doubt that they are capable of producing a powerful vaccine.

You now have a capacity problem - everyone would vaccinate much more if enough vaccine was available.

Kretschmer is traveling to Moscow at the end of April and, according to his own admission, would like to use his visit to discuss vaccine research and Russia's experiences in fighting pandemics.
