Indonesia bans domestic travel during Eid al-Fitr

An official with the transportation sector in Indonesia said that the government today announced a ban on domestic travel during Eid al-Fitr in May to prevent the spread of the Corona virus further.

The largest Muslim-populated country in the world is preparing to welcome the month of Ramadan, which begins next week, as it continues to fight one of the highest rates of virus spread in Asia.

Officials say the holidays are leading to a sharp rise in infections and that the authorities will beef up border security.

Indonesia has recorded more than 1.55 million confirmed cases of the virus and 42,200 deaths.
