The Russian vaccine against covid-19, called Sputnik V, is approved in about 60 countries but is still waiting for the green light from the European Medicines Agency, EMA.

Nevertheless, Germany will already start talks with Russia about buying the vaccine, in order to increase the vaccination rate in the country.

- The European Commission said yesterday that it will not sign contracts for Sputnik as they have done for other manufacturers.

So I said that then we will hold bilateral talks with Russia, said German Health Minister Jens Spahn in an interview with the German radio station WDR on Thursday.

The state has signed an agreement

The southern German state of Bavaria announced on Wednesday that it had signed an early agreement with a Russian manufacturer to buy licenses for 2.5 million doses of the Sputnik vaccine, as soon as the vaccine is approved by the EMA, reports TT.

When the talks with Russia will begin, Jens Spahn did not say in the interview.

Germany has so far procured vaccines together with the rest of the EU and received deliveries from Pfizer-Biontech, Moderna and Astra Zeneca.
