Kiel (dpa / lno) - Unlike Bavaria and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Schleswig-Holstein does not want to seek its own contingent of the Russian corona vaccine Sputnik V.

Health Minister Heiner Garg spoke on Thursday of "bizarre proposals" and, like the Rhineland-Palatinate Prime Minister Malu Dreyer (SPD), referred to the responsibility of the federal government.

Sputnik V is also not yet approved in Europe, said the FDP politician.

There is a clear division of tasks in Germany: The federal government is the only one to organize the procurement of vaccines and the federal states are responsible for ensuring that the vaccine gets into people's upper arms.

He warmly welcomes the fact that Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) wants to hold talks with Russia in order to sound out possible options, said Garg.

"I am of the opinion that if Sputnik V is approved, it should be treated and used in the same way as any other vaccine approved in Europe."

Garg said he was amazed that there was obviously vaccine floating around, offered by individual countries.

"I can only say that such offers should be checked by the Federal Ministry of Health for seriousness and then you can contact them if necessary and secure sufficient quantities to supply the German population."

He made his experiences with dubious offers for masks, protective gowns and other personal protective equipment.

"We should all be spared that with vaccines."
