Munich (dpa) - In the opinion of Bayern fan club boss Alexander Fischer, the return of football fans to the stadiums is currently not at all justifiable due to the tense corona situation.

"In view of the current vaccination quota, I think it is absolutely insane if you would do that," said the spokesman for Club No. 12 - an umbrella organization of fan clubs and active Bayern fans - in an interview with the "Süddeutsche Zeitung".

Munich is currently confronted with the question of whether to allow spectators to attend the European Championships in summer.

“And if you were to do that under pressure from UEFA and then the fans would have to stay out, then that would be a sign of poverty for the city,” emphasized Fischer.

“Of course the fans want to go back to the stadium - but only when it is responsible from a pandemic point of view.

Not earlier."

Munich, as the host of four games at the European Championship this summer, had recently announced that it would “continue to plan with different scenarios for possible spectators in the stadium”.

From Fischer's point of view, ghost games and the resulting lack of community experiences because of the corona pandemic still “feel completely surreal” even after more than a year.

It is “very bitter that you cannot be there.

For us active fans, football was a big part of life, especially being together, cheering, the community experience, ”said Fischer.

"All of that falls away."

He hears from fans that some people watch football casually - “some don't even watch it at all.

You can tell from that that something is being lost, ”emphasized Fischer.

The 34-year-old said it was “absolutely impossible” to get used to ghost games.

He also shared the concern that the pandemic would lead to de-emotionalization.

"Absolutely.

I see that with some of the members, too, ”said Fischer.
