Oldenburg (dpa / lni) - After the death of a 19-year-old from Delmenhorst in police custody, the Oldenburg public prosecutor has so far seen no evidence of third-party debt.

The public prosecutor's office is investigating ex officio in this case, the authority announced on Thursday.

At the same time, the family filed a complaint against all police officers and paramedics involved.

The initial suspicion was negligent homicide and failure to provide assistance.

The young man had been checked by the police in Delmenhorst on March 5 for possible drug use.

There was an argument in which the officers also used pepper spray.

The 19-year-old collapsed later in the detention cell.

He died in the hospital in Oldenburg a day later.

Another forensic medical report has been available since Thursday, the public prosecutor said.

"This essentially means that the young man died of a multiple organ failure of as yet unclear genesis."

He had blood in his lungs and stomach.

The contents of the stomach indicate that "intoxication with foreign substances" is also a possible cause of death.

Further extensive investigations have been commissioned.

In addition, the dead man was injured on the head, chin and cheek.

This fits the picture of a physical confrontation with the officers.

These injuries had nothing to do with the cause of death, wrote the prosecutor.

The entire process must be further clarified, said the family lawyer, Lea Voigt, in Bremen.

The 19-year-old had already complained during the inspection that he could not breathe.
