Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - Not least because of the corona pandemic, more people in Baden-Württemberg than ever before turned to the state's anti-discrimination office.

With over 240 people seeking advice, the number has more than tripled compared to 2019, said a spokesman for the Ministry of Social Affairs in Stuttgart on Thursday.

The trend is continuing: In the first three months of this year, more than 65 people had already registered with the facility.

Many cases of discrimination would not even be known, it was said.

First, “Stuttgarter Nachrichten” and “Stuttgarter Zeitung” (Friday) reported on the numbers.

In particular, inquiries on grounds of discrimination such as disabilities and chronic illnesses have increased almost tenfold in the past year.

"The background here is clearly the corona pandemic and the mask requirement introduced in this context or the planned exemptions," the spokesman explained.

If you do not wear a mask for health reasons and have a certificate for it, you do not have to wear a mask according to the state's Corona regulation.

The anti-discrimination agency was founded in 2018.
