Al-Ashaal added in an intervention with Al-Jazeera Mubasher that the position of Egypt and Sudan is what encouraged Ethiopia to its position, indicating that the current talk about the Renaissance Dam has become lapsed, as he put it.

Al-Ashaal said that the positions of Egypt and Sudan need to be reviewed and investigated over the course of seven years, because what happened is a "major disaster."

He continued, "Ethiopia is currently insulting Egypt and Sudan, because Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed won his people, African public opinion, the African Union and the international community."

He said, "Egypt has lost all of that, including domestic public opinion ... Ethiopia always propagates lies."

He added that Ethiopia "sank the dignity of the two states into the dirt, imposed its line and the de facto status on them, and lured them into futile negotiations, just as Israel lured the Palestinians before."

Al-Ashaal said that the governments of the two countries should realize that the battle of the dam had ended in favor of Ethiopia, and that the "phase of annihilation" had begun, as he described it.

The former ambassador added that "Ethiopia will use the dam to annihilate Egypt and Sudan."

Al-Ashaal pointed out that "the Ethiopian prime minister is inciting his people against Egypt, saying that his country has given up Egyptian hegemony over Ethiopian waters."

Al-Ashaal believed that there is no solution currently except for the attack on the Renaissance Dam, given the disasters that will result from this dam, he said.

Ethiopia is moving ahead with its plan

Ethiopia said that it is proceeding with the plan to complete the construction and operation of the Renaissance Dam, rejecting the efforts of Egypt and Sudan to enter international mediators.

Ethiopian Irrigation Minister Seleshi Bagli said that the attempt to expand the mediation is a miscarriage of the role of the African Union and an attempt to obstruct the completion of the dam.

The Ethiopian minister stressed that the filling of the Renaissance Dam will take place on time, and said, "We are ready to continue negotiations if Egypt and Sudan wished in accordance with the agreement of principles."

He added that "the concerns expressed by Sudan regarding the possibility that it will be affected by the process of filling the second filling of the Renaissance Dam are not real," he said.
