Erfurt (dpa / th) - The first corona vaccinations in the practices of general practitioners have got off to a good start, according to the Thuringian General Practitioner Association.

The vaccine deliveries from the wholesalers arrived in most practices on time and without any problems during Tuesday, said the spokesman for the Thuringian General Practitioner Association, Ulf Zitterbart.

By Tuesday around 20,000 vaccine doses from the Biontech company had been distributed to the practices, said the spokesman for the Thuringian Pharmacists' Association, Stefan Fink.

According to Fink, around 5,000 more cans were expected.

The amount reduced by around 20 percent was partially distributed to the doctors.

On average, every family doctor in Thuringia received 18 to 24 doses that can be vaccinated up to the weekend.

Zitterbart himself had received 27 vaccine doses, as well as the four other doctors in the Kranichfeld group practice.

"We started yesterday at 2 p.m. and made house calls - to people who can no longer go to vaccination centers," said Zitterbart.

At the moment, his vaccination patients mainly included newly arrived nursing home residents and bedridden patients.

"These people are very happy to be vaccinated by us."

The practices regulate the allocation of appointments themselves, for example by telephone or digital appointment booking option.

For the general practitioner association, this is by far the biggest hurdle in the vaccination phase. The waiting lists are long, and making appointments is an incredible amount of work.

Many on the waiting list have already been vaccinated in the meantime or have been given an appointment at one of the centers.

The Medical Association recommends that the practices follow the current vaccination priorities when making appointments.

In general, the order of who can be vaccinated first also applies to general practitioners' practices.

You work “from top to bottom” - all high-risk patients, i.e. the elders, come first, said Zitterbart.

Around 305 100 Thuringians (around 15 percent) have been vaccinated for the first time, according to the Ministry of Health.

In the past 24 hours, around 5500 first corona vaccinations have been added.

According to the information, around 132,900 Thuringians have received their second vaccination and thus full protection.

That corresponds to a good six percent of the population.

"The ordering process for next week has already started again," said Fink from the pharmacists' association.

20,000 to 25,000 cans should then be available again throughout Thuringia.

Every practice places its order in the pharmacy, in which it also orders for so-called consultation hours.

This assignment worked very well, said Fink.

So far it jerks "only because there is a little too little vaccine".

In his opinion, GPs could vaccinate three times the doses.

The Thuringian General Practitioner Association also wants more vaccination doses.

General practitioners are unhappy that only 20 to 30 doses per doctor per week are currently available.

Some could vaccinate up to 100 doses a week, Shiverbeard said.

From next week, the vaccine contingent for Thuringia will increase to three million doses per week, according to the pharmacists' association.

In addition to the Biontech deliveries to practices via wholesalers, around 35,000 additional vaccine doses are to be used this week in the high-incidence districts of Greiz and Schmalkalden-Meiningen, the Saale-Orla district, the Wartburg district and the city of Gera.
