The "yellow vest" Jérôme Rodrigues was released Tuesday by the Paris court, which judged him for "public insults" against the police, whom he had called a "gang of Nazis" online.

"I can only be satisfied with this decision", he reacted to the microphone of Europe 1.

Tried for "public insults" after having treated police online as "Nazis", the "yellow vest" Jérôme Rodrigues was released Tuesday by the Paris court.

According to the court, the incriminated remarks "did not target all the police officers but the methods of some of them", in this case members of the Synergie-officers union.

This union, underlined the court, "not to be confused with the public administration which is the national police force".

"I have been insulted for two years. Yes, out of excess of anger, I had words that most certainly exceeded my thoughts. But I repeat, not to all the police, only to the intention of those who spend their time insulting me, behind this Twitter account and during various events. I can only be satisfied with this decision ", reacted Jérôme Rodrigues at the microphone of Europe 1.

Complaint by Darmanin

Stunned by a grenade fire during a demonstration in January 2019, he admitted to having posted on Twitter, in September 2020, the message: "it is clear, gang of Nazis, that you will go and open the concentration camp available at northeast of Paris, the one you are trying to hide from the media ".

These words had led to the filing of a complaint on the part of the Minister of the Interior, Gerald Darmanin, who had denounced "despicable" remarks and affirmed his desire to "defend the honor of all the police officers".

"Rodrigues 1, Darmanin 0. Legal victories, there will be others. It will prove to this government that it is not master of the world and that it will not do what it wants in France to always pass the 'yellow vests' for animals which have no value or which are there to harm France ", added Jérôme Rodrigues.

One of the best known of the "yellow vests" movement, Jérôme Rodrigues lost an eye during a demonstration on January 26, 2019, while he was filming the arrival of the procession at Place de la Bastille in Paris.

Two police officers were indicted on January 14, one for "willful violence resulting in mutilation or permanent disability" and the other for "aggravated willful violence" in connection with this case.
