Schönefeld (dpa / bb) - On Wednesday evening, numerous demonstrators protested against the deportation of asylum seekers to Afghanistan at Terminal 5 of the BER airport in Schönefeld.

Some of the demonstrators blocked access roads, another part reached the premises, according to the airport police inspection.

According to the police, 50 to 75 people were registered, but around 320 to 350 appeared in the evening;

around 120 to 150 of them had penetrated the company premises.

The Brandenburg Refugee Council had called for the protests and expected a collective deportation to Afghanistan on Wednesday evening.

However, this has not been officially confirmed.

According to a dpa reporter, chants could be heard.

Speakers criticized the fact that deportations to Afghanistan would violate human rights.

The demonstrators put up posters calling for the deportation to be stopped.

"Asylum is a human right" or "Berlin free of deportation" read among other things.

A group of demonstrators took to the street on Waßmannsdorfer Chaussee not far from the old Schönefeld Airport.

According to the police, there were no attacks on officials or arrests during the protests.

However, a number of dismissals have been issued.

There was also a scuffle between demonstrators and police officers in front of a building.

The police operation continued in the evening.
