Schwerin (dpa / mv) - Nothing stands in the way of the Ludwigslust state parliament member Maika Friemann-Jennert (CDU) changing to the Bundestag.

As the state parliament administration in Schwerin announced, the 56-year-old officially announced the waiver of her mandate to the state parliament president Birgit Hesse on Wednesday.

As a so-called successor in the Bundestag, she will take the place of her party colleague Karin Strenz, who died surprisingly.

Friemann-Jennert announced that he would also like to occupy the committees in which Strenz was active, including the Defense Committee, for the remaining months up to the federal election in September.

Strenz collapsed in the plane on the return flight from Cuba to Germany in mid-March.

Despite an emergency landing in Ireland, her life could no longer be saved.

According to the CDU candidate list for the 2016 state elections, Friemann-Jennert's successor in the state parliament will be Thomas Grote, who sits for the CDU in the district council of Northwest Mecklenburg.

The state parliament in Schwerin will also be re-elected at the end of September.
