Berlin (dpa) - The five-time speed skating world champion Jenny Wolf has taken on a new professional role.

Since April 1st, the 42-year-old has been working as the education & science coordinator in the team at the Federal Office of Special Olympics Germany eV (SOD), as SOD announced on its website.

Previously, the Olympic runner-up in 2010 over 500 meters had worked as a national trainer for the German Speed ​​Skating and Short Track Association for almost three months before she gave up her position on December 11, 2020 at her own request.

"I am very much looking forward to bringing my experiences in the field of education and science and my enthusiasm for sport in all its facets to the Sport and Education team at SOD," Wolf is quoted in the press release.

She knows the association herself from joint actions during her active time.

Due to an increase in sports funding for SOD in 2021 by a resolution of the Bundestag, the position was re-established.

In her field of activity, to develop the basics for topics of education for and with people with intellectual disabilities, the native of Berlin expects close cooperation with leading organizations in organized sport.

She is looking forward to the major event in her hometown in two years' time: "And of course it is also a nice job to be part of the Sports and Education team in the preparation of the Special Olympics World Games in Berlin in 2023."
