Frankfurt / M.

(dpa) - In view of the increasing corona problem in the 2nd division, the German Football League again points out that mandatory quarantine training camps for all teams are expressly not excluded.

"If there is a re-evaluation (...) in the near future, the DFL will inform you about it," said a spokesman for the umbrella organization of the 36 professional clubs on Wednesday of the German press agency.

The DFL Presidium announced on Tuesday that such a measure was “currently not necessary from a medical perspective”.

A training camp quarantine was initially discussed in April in order to further reduce the risk of infection in times of increasing numbers of infections.

However, the DFL had immediately pointed out that it reserved a corresponding decision at a later point in time during the current round.

"The Sports Medicine / Special Games Task Force will continue to monitor the situation permanently - also against the background of the tightening of the concept with mandatory antigen rapid tests on training and travel days, which took place last week," said the DFL spokesman.

"The tightening of the concept was not long enough ago for a meaningful medical evaluation of the effectiveness of this measure."

Especially at the end of the season, professional football has hardly any alternatives for catch-up games if the Bundesliga is to end on May 22nd and the 2nd division on May 23rd.

After the DFL presidium meeting on Tuesday, the second division teams of Karlsruher SC and SV Sandhausen had to go into a 14-day quarantine due to positive tests.
