The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said that what it described as US provocative moves in the region constituted a threat to Iran's national security, stressing that Tehran would respond to any strategic error on the part of those who described them as its enemies with full force.

In a statement, the Revolutionary Guards called on the American forces to withdraw from the region, describing their presence as illegal and a source of instability to security and stability.

The Revolutionary Guard’s freedom statement issued today, Sunday, advised the Americans to follow international rules and naval protocols in the Arab Gulf region and the Gulf of Oman, and to refrain from any risk or false stories, he said.

"They must be assured that the freedom of the Revolutionary Guard and the powerful armed forces of the Islamic Republic regard the dangerous behavior of foreigners in the region as a threat to national security, which is a red line and any miscalculation on their part will receive a decisive response," the statement added.

The statement pointed out that the movement of the Revolutionary Guard boats towards the American ships on April 6 came after the American ships intercepted an Iranian ship on its way back from a mission in the southeast of the Iranian island of Farsi.

The Revolutionary Guards released pictures it said showed the detection of those US warships in the Gulf waters and the approaching Iranian boats.

The Revolutionary Guard indicated that it increased its patrols in the Gulf waters, to reduce what it described as the adventurous and unprofessional behavior of the American forces.

A dangerous approach

The US Navy announced last Wednesday that 11 boats belonging to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard have repeatedly followed what it called a dangerous approach and harassment of US warships, in the northern Gulf region.

The US Navy said that one of the Iranian boats was nine meters from a collision with a US Navy ship, describing the move as "dangerous and provocative."

She added that the Iranian boats ignored multiple warnings over the radio, and other warnings from American ships, noting that "the dangerous and provocative actions of the navy of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, increased the risk of miscalculation of the situation and collision, and is inconsistent with the international agreement to prevent collisions at sea."
