07 April 2021 Alitalia has received the expected

Covid refreshments and can now proceed with the payment of the remaining 50% of the March salaries

. the commissioners make it known in an internal communication to the employees: "We inform that following the accreditation of the refreshments deemed adequate by the European commission - write Leogrande, Santosuosso and Fava - we are able to proceed with the payment of the remaining 50% of the salaries of March , which you will receive with currency tomorrow, April 8th ".

Yesterday the protest of hundreds of Alitalia workers at Terminal 3 of Fiumicino Leonardo Da Vinci airport for an assembly called by Usb, Cub, Acc and Naca Piloti which also involved 200 workers at Linate and Malpensa airports. "Alitalia and Cityliner employees - states the Usb - find themselves caught between the ongoing strangulation of Alitalia wanted by the EU and the crazy negotiation to give what remains of the Italian market to other carriers, reducing Alitalia to a micro company and producing thousands of redundancies ".

The European Commission

There is still no compromise between the government and the European Commission on the Alitalia case. After the Easter break, technical contacts resume and for the moment there are no meetings between the ministers involved (Economy, Economic Development and Transport) and the head of competition Margrethe Vestager. The dossier of the Italian airline remains complicated. A few weeks ago Vestager had indicated a short decision on public aid to Alitalia (1.3 billion in total), a decision that directly interferes with the green light to the new company that will take over the functions of Alitalia: if the newco Italia Trasporti Aereo will not guarantee discontinuity with Alitalia, it will have to return public funding to Alitalia if deemed incompatible with EU regulations.

He is discussing the green light from the European Commission for an investment by the French government of up to 4 billion to recapitalize Air France

.

Political reactions

"With its double standards policy compared to the direct competitors of the Italian national airline, Europe risks damaging the interests of Italian consumers and thousands of workers. This is unacceptable, common sense and impartiality are required" , reports a joint note signed by Fabio Massimo Castaldo, MEP of the 5 Star Movement and Vice President of the European Parliament and Giulia Lupo, Senator of the Movement. In particular, Lupo made an appeal to Commissioner Margrethe Vestager who "should respond in the Chamber as to why he does not impose plans on France or Germany, but rightly authorizes further state aid in a period in which anyone is clearly in need of support".

"Two weights and two measures: asking for a more efficient national airline - underline Scurati and Bastoni della Lega - does not mean selling our country to low cost management or closing the slots on Malpensa. The Lombard airport is a large hub for the whole north of the country, an important window in terms of tourism and economics, also in light of the 2026 Olympics. A criterion, the one used by the European Commission, which does not protect families and the Italian and Lombard economic fabric ".

The municipal assembly of 8 April

At the assembly in Rome, which took place yesterday, there was a delegation from the Municipality of Fiumicino, composed of the Deputy Mayor Ezio Di Genesio Pagliuca and the President of the Municipal Council Alessandra Vona,

who invited the workers to preside over the Municipality on April 8 on the occasion of the extraordinary Council on the Alitalia issue

, to which the

representatives of the trade unions and experts in the sector

are invited

. For the Usb "the Government must assume its responsibilities: it must stop this crazy negotiation with the EU and take a new path that starts with the protection of employment and a strategic asset for the whole of Italy".

The appeal of the workers to Draghi and the reaction of the trade unions

Alitalia workers appeal to Prime Minister Draghi to stop the wave of layoffs that would hit the former national airline with the creation of the Newco, based on the current industrial plan and requests of Brussels. After the demonstrations last week and the recent protest at Fiumicino airport, even today workers, employees and hostesses marched in a procession at the Roman airport. "The workers are asking Draghi for an answer, an authoritative intervention that is in line with the authority that parliament has recognized for the Italian premier. President Draghi, if there is one, strike a shot", invokes the president of Naca Piloti Alitalia. Franco Zorzo, underlining that the employees "have all done their duty, making enormous sacrifices even under the management of the commissioner". The leader of Uiltrasporti, Claudio Tarlazzi, denounces the "disconcerting" silence of the government, urging it to take a stand against the EU: "Alitalia is our Ilva".
