- It probably spoils the atmosphere a bit in a way, says Andreas Göransson.

In a regular dissertation, family, friends and colleagues are usually present, as well as, of course, the person who opposes the doctoral dissertation.

That's not possible now.

Everyone is expected to keep their distance and the opponent instead asks his critical questions via computer.

Although it may not be the same party atmosphere, the forced way to have a dissertation has certain advantages.

It has turned out that it has become easier to get the right opponent.

When there are no long journeys, it is easier for more specialists in different areas to set up.

In addition, there may be environmental benefits of reduced travel.

The communication is the same

- You may have felt a little nervous from time to time about whether the technology would work, says Andreas Göransson.

Apart from that, the method of communication did not affect the dissertation itself.

The doctoral student presented his work and the opponent asked critical questions, just as usual.

By the way, doctoral student Andreas Göransson can now call himself a doctor of philosophy in the didactics of science and technology.
