Meeting of relevant parties to the Iran nuclear agreement held in Vienna

Xinhua News Agency, Vienna, April 6 (Reporter Yu Tao and Li Jizhi) A meeting of relevant parties to the comprehensive agreement on the Iranian nuclear issue was held on the 6th in Vienna, the capital of Austria, to discuss the issue of the United States and Iran's resumption of compliance.

After the meeting, many parties said that the meeting was "constructive."

In the afternoon of the same day, the political director-general meeting of the Joint Commission on the Iranian Nuclear Agreement was held at the Vienna Hotel.

The meeting was chaired by Mora, Deputy Secretary-General of the European Union’s External Action Agency. Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Araghi, and corresponding officials from Russia, Britain, France, and Germany attended the meeting.

Wang Qun, Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations in Vienna, attended the meeting.

According to reports, although the U.S. President's special envoy for Iran, Marley, also led a delegation to Vienna, the U.S. representative did not attend the meeting because the U.S. has withdrawn from the Iran nuclear agreement and Iran has refused to have direct dialogue with the U.S.

The EU representatives act as mediators to negotiate with all parties, and then communicate the opinions of the United States and Iran through "shuttle diplomacy".

Mora said on social media on the evening of the 6th that the meeting was constructive. The participants had the same aspirations and ambitious goals. They all hoped to start a joint diplomatic process. Two expert groups would be responsible for the implementation of the nuclear agreement and the lifting of sanctions against Iran. .

Mora said that as a coordinator, he will continue to consult with relevant parties, including the United States.

According to a statement issued by the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the 6th, Araghi said at the meeting that the lifting of US sanctions against Iran is the first and most necessary step for the United States to return to the Iran nuclear agreement.

Iran is ready to immediately revoke measures to reduce performance after verifying that the sanctions are lifted, and implement the Iran nuclear agreement in its entirety.

US State Department spokesperson Price said at a regular press conference on the 6th that although the US did not have a direct dialogue with Iran this time, the meeting was still a constructive step.

He also stated that the United States rejects Iran’s position that the United States should first lift all sanctions against Iran, but is open to direct dialogue with Iran.

In July 2015, Iran reached an Iran nuclear agreement with the United States, Britain, France, Russia, China and Germany.

According to the agreement, Iran promised to restrict its nuclear program and the international community lifted sanctions against Iran.

In May 2018, the US government unilaterally withdrew from the Iran nuclear agreement, and subsequently restarted and added a series of sanctions against Iran.

Since May 2019, Iran has gradually suspended the implementation of certain provisions of the Iran nuclear agreement, but promised that the measures taken are "reversible."

On April 2 this year, representatives of the parties involved in the Iranian nuclear agreement held a video conference and decided to continue the meeting in Vienna to discuss the issue of the United States and Iran's resumption of compliance.
