Los Angeles (AP) - Cosmetics and fashion have made reality TV star Kim Kardashian a billionaire according to an estimate by the US magazine “Forbes”: According to this, the 40-year-old increased her fortune from 780 million in October to the magical mark of one billion dollars (about 850 million euros).

Two Kardashians companies are primarily responsible for this - “KKW Beauty” for cosmetics and “Skims” for mostly tight-fitting women's fashion - which have been particularly successful through direct advertising on social media.

Kardashian reaches 213 million people with her Instagram account and is one of the most successful influencers worldwide.

Kardashian became famous not only in the USA from 2007 through the reality TV show "Keeping Up with the Kardashians".

Their self-marketing on social media has become a key to their success and sustained attention over the past 15 years.

She also made headlines with her marriage to rap superstar Kanye West and the filing of divorce a few weeks ago.

Kardashian follows her half-sister Kylie Jenner into the ranks of - at least temporarily - billionaires.

Young entrepreneur Jenner had been proclaimed a billionaire by "Forbes", but the magazine had then expressed doubts about its own estimate and finally sorted it back under the brand.
