  • The companion and two of Badre Fakir's children, are tried from this Tuesday by the Assize Court of Gard for murder.

  • The 49-year-old man was drugged, stabbed and burned under a bridge.

  • Catarina Castro denies premeditation.

His lawyer will defend the thesis of domestic violence.

A version contested by the civil parties.

The children, for their part, deny having killed their father.

His body was found charred under a bridge in 2015. The autopsy revealed that the victim had previously been drugged and stabbed.

The trial for the assassination of Badre Fakir, 49, begins this Tuesday in Nîmes.

On the dock, his companion, Catarina Castro, who admitted the murder before the judge but denies the premeditation.

If the assassination is accepted by the popular jury, she faces the penalty of life imprisonment.

“This act was not premeditated, will plead his lawyer, Aoudia Khadija.

The act was conditioned by domestic violence.

It is the survival instinct that led to this passage to the act, and nothing else, underlines the penalist.

Even if Catarina has never pushed the doors of a police station to file a complaint, a bundle of elements leads to the conclusion that she was under the influence and that she had been experiencing violence for nearly thirty years.

This version is contested by the civil parties.

The sons admitted during the investigation to having transported the body of their father

Two of the couple's four children, Jordan and Mickaël, whom their mother tried to clear through customs throughout the investigation, are also being tried before the assizes.

Both admitted having transported their father and set his body on fire, but deny having killed him.

They too are being prosecuted for murder.

This will be one of the challenges of this trial which is due to end on Friday.

"We consider that the three indicted are involved in the assassination," said Nadia El Bouroumi, one of the defense lawyers.
