Schwerin (dpa / mv) - For corona vaccinations by resident doctors in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, around 50,000 vaccine doses are to be made available this week.

According to the association, 31,000 cans from the manufacturer Astrazeneca will be delivered to general practitioners and specialists on Wednesday by pharmacies in the country.

In addition, there are 20,000 cans that the federal government provides.

How many resident doctors will be involved in the vaccination campaign initially remained unclear.

Some practices had received so-called starter packages with vaccines in March to initially protect doctors and nurses from infection.

Corona vaccinations are slow to get going because there is a lack of vaccine.

In order to achieve the targeted vaccination quota of around 70 percent, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania needs a total of 2.2 million doses for first and second vaccinations.

According to the Ministry of Health, just over 300,000 have been delivered so far.
