Emmanuel Macron spoke on Tuesday in a third class, on the occasion of the first day of distance learning for schools, colleges and high schools.

"There should not be any confinement again," said the head of state in front of these college students in Oraison, in the Alpes-de-Haute Provence.

It is a rather particular speaker who exchanged Tuesday afternoon with 18 students of a third class of the Itard college in Oraison, in the Alpes-de-Haute Provence, during their history-geography course.

On the occasion of the first day of distance learning for French schools, colleges and high schools, Emmanuel Macron himself connected, at 4 p.m., to their virtual class and by videoconference, from the Élysée Palace.

"There shouldn't be any lockdown again"

The President of the Republic discussed with the students, who initially did not want to activate their camera except for two of them, as well as with their history teacher and the principal of the college.

Emmanuel Macron connected through the platform "My class at home", set up by the National Center for Distance Learning (CNED), a system which experienced technical difficulties on Tuesday because of the strong influx of students connected at the same time.

"I wanted to thank you for adapting to the current situation, I know it is not easy," said the head of state.

"We will have, with this collective effort of four weeks, slowed down the virus well. We will have continued to accelerate the vaccination, until the end of the school year. Then there should be no confinement again" , also assured Emmanuel Macron to the children.

To the question of a college student asking him if "the patent would be canceled", Emmanuel Macron replied "no".

"We all want it," he added.

"Last year it hadn't been canceled either."

A very special month of April in schools

To curb the spread of the coronavirus, the President of the Republic announced, on March 31, an adaptation of the school calendar.

This week of April 5 is marked by distance learning for schools, colleges and high schools.

The reception of the children of caregivers and some other priority professions is nevertheless always guaranteed, as is the reception of children with disabilities in the medico-social sector.

The spring holidays will then undergo harmonization throughout France, regardless of the zone, and will take place from April 10 and over two weeks.

A gradual reopening will follow depending on the level: the start of the school year will take place for all on April 26, but physically for nursery and primary, while it will be done remotely for colleges and high schools.

Middle school and high school students will be able to physically return to their establishments from May 3, if necessary with suitable gauges.
