The deliberations of the Court were emptied by its president Auguste Iloki after a hearing which lasted a few hours.
"
The candidate Sassou
-
Nguesso Denis
is elected President of the Republic, who won 88.40% of the vote in the first round
", declared Mr. Iloki.
Lawyer for Denis Sassou-Nguesso, Me Emmanuel Oko described his client's victory as clear and above all understood why the Court made some slight modifications to the results.
“
You know, little mistakes are never lacking.
At the start it's 88.57%, at the end it's 88.40%, it's more or less the same thing,
”he said.
For his part, Me Jean-Philippe Esseau, lawyer for Jean-Jacques Serge Yhombi Opango, ally of
Guy-Brice Parfait Kolélas, opponent who died
the day after the election, admittedly bowed to the verdict of the Court, but he thinks that the problem remains whole.
“
Kolélas deceased, he loses his legal personality, so he loses his candidate status.
Can we pronounce the results of a deceased;
of a person who is no longer a candidate
”.
The electoral dispute emptied, his victory confirmed Denis Sassou-Nguesso now awaits his inauguration for a fourth term of five years with many challenges to overcome.
