The rate of vaccination in the United States continues to accelerate.

The president of that country, Joe Biden, is going to advance to April 19, within two Mondays, the date on which every American over the age of 16 will have access to the Covid-19 vaccine.

The previous date, announced just three weeks ago, was May 1.

In fact,

14 of the 50 states that make up the country already have vaccines accessible to everyone who wants

.

In the US, 167 million vaccines have already been given, that is, more than double that in the EU, despite the fact that its population is 26.5% smaller.

A fifth of the population is already fully vaccinated, and another 12.8% have received a dose, according to the Bloomberg news agency.

That country has so far authorized three vaccines: that of Pfizer and BioNTech, that of Moderna, and that of Jassen (from Johnson & Johnson).

AstraZeneca's, the most widely used in Europe, has not yet received the green light from the US authorities.

In this way, the White House hopes to achieve its goal of

allowing family and friends gatherings on July 4, which is the national day of the United States

, and achieve group immunity, which would reach around 75% of the elderly population. 16-year-old vaccinated at the end of July.

For Biden, it is a political objective of the greatest importance, given that the president has so far entrusted his management to the fight against Covid-19.

The appalling management of the pandemic by Donald Trump, who was even hospitalized for Covid-19 in the absence of less than a month before the elections, was what allowed Joe Biden to win the November 3 elections.

The current president has bet his presidency on the elimination of the health crisis, first, and the recovery of the economy, later.

As part of that political strategy, Biden has combined the expansion of the vaccination policy and the tightening of restrictions on mobility with, simply, the announcement as big objectives of figures that were already going to be achieved simply according to the systems previously established for production and distribution.

Thus, the president first announced with great fanfare the goal that, in the first 100 days of his term, 100 million doses were administered.

It was practically impossible not to achieve that figure, since on January 19, the last day of the Presidency of Donald Trump, 927,000 people were vaccinated.

With that impossible-to-fail goal fully achieved, Biden has doubled down to 200 million vaccines in his first 100 days.

Those are already bigger numbers.

On Saturday, for example, the US administered 4.1 million vaccines.

At the current rate, the world's leading power could reach the 75% barrier not by the end of July, but a month earlier.

The political payoff to the White House from that milestone would be enormous.

Even more so when Biden has launched an infrastructure and renewable energy plan worth 2.25 trillion dollars (1.9 trillion euros) for the next 10 years and plans another one, of a social nature, for a similar amount.

The objective of the White House is to demonstrate that the State is effective in coordinating with the private sector

to face the challenges of the country.

and, for this, nothing better than ending the pandemic.

In fact, the US is beginning to consider starting vaccinations for children in the fall.

The advance in vaccination does not mean that the fight against Covid is won.

Not much less.

After hitting an eight-month low of 60,000 daily positives in March, the number of new cases has stabilized between 70,000 and 90,000 as states lift lockdowns.

The death toll has been below 1,000 a day for several days.

In the US, 555,777 people have died to date, according to estimates by John Hopkins University.
