China Overseas Chinese Network, April 5th. According to a comprehensive report from the American Chinese Network on Saturday (3rd) local time, a 64-year-old Chinese woman in Riverside County, California, was caught by a 23-year-old stranger while walking her dog in La Sierra. Stabbed to death, the woman has been detained on suspicion of murder.

The police described the case as a "random" attack.

The local police received a call to report the case at about 7:30 am on the 3rd, but the Riverside County Coroner’s Office reported that Meng Kejie was injured at about 7 am.

The coroner's office said Meng Kejie was taken to Riverside Community Hospital after being stabbed on Golden Avenue north of Stonewall Drive. She was pronounced dead at 8:39 in the morning.

Police said Meng Kejie was stabbed in the abdomen.

"Soon after, our dispatch center began to receive calls from neighbors, reporting that a suspicious-looking woman had passed through their yard," said Riverside County police Ryan Reelsback.

"Officials inspected the nearby area and finally arrested the woman."

"The suspect is identified as 23-year-old Stephanie Montoya, who is a homeless from Monterey Park," he said.

"Preliminary investigation revealed that Ms. Meng was walking her two puppies along Golden Avenue this morning, and then she was randomly attacked by this woman," he said.

The police questioned Montoya and believed that race was not the cause of the attack.

"The suspect is from Los Angeles County, homeless, and apparently suffering from mental health and substance abuse problems," Railsback said.

"The attack can happen to anyone."

He said that Montoya was detained to the Robert Presley Detention Center for murder, violation of weapons regulations and suspected of taking illegal drugs, and she was not placed on bail.

This is the second time Montoya has been arrested by riverside police this week.

Reelsback said that on Tuesday, she was arrested on suspicion of using a lethal weapon to attack a woman with a skateboard on Tyler Avenue by the riverside highway.

Due to the emergency bail arrangements implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic, she was released after being issued a court summons.

At present, the investigation of this case is still continuing.
