Norderney (dpa / lni) - The aging Westdeich on Norderney is being comprehensively modernized and strengthened.
The Lower Saxony State Agency for Water Management, Coastal Protection and Nature Conservation (NLWKN) will start setting up the construction site on the 800-meter-long dike section between Inselhafen and Westbad this Tuesday.
Since there is only a narrow time window between spring and autumn for the construction work outside the storm surge season, the renovation of the protective structure is to take place in two phases.
The first 400 meter long part is now being tackled.
The state company estimates the cost of the construction project at around 4.8 million euros.
