Syria receives the bodies of 3 sisters found on the coast of Tartous to Lebanon

Today, Sunday, the Syrian authorities handed over the bodies of three Lebanese sisters, who went missing about a week ago and were found on the beach of the coastal city of Tartous, to the Lebanese side, according to the official Syrian News Agency (SANA).

The family of the three girls, who are residents of the village of Bzeiza in northern Lebanon, lost their trace last Monday, and a page on the "Facebook" website published their photos, asking anyone who knows anything about them to inform the security centers.

On Friday, the Syrian Ministry of Interior announced the discovery of the bodies of three girls, who were found to be in the second and third decades of life, and forensic medicine determined that they died by drowning three days before they were found.

A Lebanese security official explained that "after reviewing the pictures, we contacted the Syrian side until it was confirmed that the bodies belong to the three missing girls."

SANA reported, at a later time, that Syria had delivered the bodies of the three girls to the Lebanese side, after the Lebanese embassy in Damascus contacted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the girls ’father recognized the bodies.

The circumstances of the accident were not immediately clear.

And the Lebanese official suggested that the force of the waves pushed the girls to the coast of Tartous.

He also indicated that investigations are continuing and members of the girls' family are being questioned.

According to another Lebanese security source, the authorities are investigating three hypotheses, which are their exposure to kidnapping for ransom, their attempt to flee via migrant boats, or suicide.

In recent months, the number of migrants trying to flee by sea from Lebanon has doubled.

In September, UNIFIL found a boat with 36 passengers on board, who were trying to flee, but they found themselves lost at sea.

A number of those on board died.
