“The decision in case No. 50-54-2020, according to which the diocesan court recognized Protodeacon Andrei Kuraev, who was banned from the priesthood, to be ejected from the priesthood,” I affirm, ”the Patriarch’s resolution says.

This decision will come into force after the issuance of a decree on the eruption of Protodeacon Andrei Kuraev from the priesthood.

It is noted that a moratorium is imposed on the issuance of the decree for the time that is given to Protodeacon Andrei for "rethinking his position and returning to the path of the church, which was chosen by him in his time."

In December 2020, the Diocesan Court of Moscow defrocked Protodeacon Andrei Kuraev after his words about the late rector of the Epiphany Yelokhovsky Cathedral, Archpriest Alexander Ageikin.

At the end of April, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia banned Protodeacon Kuraev from serving.

Ageikin passed away on April 21, 2020 at the age of 48.

Earlier, he was diagnosed with a coronavirus infection.

Kuraev dedicated a blog post to his death, calling the clergyman "under-protopresbyter" and "stupid careerist."
