Düsseldorf (dpa) - CDU boss Armin Laschet expects hard weeks and months with new restrictions in the corona pandemic.

The North Rhine-Westphalian Prime Minister made this clear in an Easter address published on Saturday on the digital channels of the state government.

At the same time, Laschet emphasized that there was every reason to hope.

Tens of thousands of people would be vaccinated every day - including over Easter.

In this context, Laschet thanked everyone who is involved in the vaccination centers as well as the people who serve in the intensive care units of the hospitals.

Laschet appealed for the federal, state and local governments to stand together across party lines to overcome the crisis.

At the same time he admitted: “Management has to get better.

Our decision-making paths clearer.

And for that we need a new attempt. "

This is the only way to create trust.

For the time after Easter, the Christian Democrat announced a “further big step”, especially with regard to vaccination and testing.

By testing a lot more in schools after the Easter holidays, "more light will come into the dark field of infections".

Then in North Rhine-Westphalia the over 70-year-olds would be gradually invited to vaccination, starting with the 79-year-olds.

At Easter, Christians celebrated the victory of life over death, Laschet recalled.

Although the deadly corona virus has not yet been defeated, he is certain that life will win in the end.
