In a video reached by the British BBC through Hamza's lawyer, the former Crown Prince accuses the country's leader of corruption, incompetence and harassment.

Hamza also claims that he is under house arrest.

- We have reached a point where no one can say or express an opinion about anything without being pushed down, arrested, harassed or threatened, he says, among other things.

However, the information from Jordan that came late on Saturday night is contradictory.

Denies the information

What is known is that security forces have detained about 20 high-ranking executives, while Hamza has been visited and interrogated, according to official information.

Jordan's army chief Yusef Huneity, however, denies that Hamza has been placed under house arrest.

However, he has been asked to stop activities that could "shake the country's stability and security".

In 2004, King Abdullah deprived his half-brother Hamza of the title of crown prince in a move that is believed to have aimed to strengthen the regent's power.

Different mothers

Former Crown Prince Hamza is the son of Queen Noor, while King Abdullah, a few years older, is the son of Princess Muna al-Hussein in her marriage to King Hussein.

King Abdullah II, who took over the royal title from his father King Hussein in 1999, has so far received support from virtually all countries in the region - such as Egypt, Israel, Turkey, Iran and Saudi Arabia - but also from world political heavyweights such as the United States and Great Britain and the Arab League.
