Despite its 50 years in Sweden, the Syrian Orthodox Church has found it difficult to attract the younger generations to the priesthood.

And the shortage has become increasingly apparent in the last decade.

An increased influx from Syria and Iraq, among others, has led to many congregations growing - and to new churches being opened.

Educate the priests of the future

- Our church needs at least a dozen priests in the future, says Youhanun Habil, a priest monk, who most recently comes from France, where he has a doctorate in theology and religious history.

One of the main goals of his new assignment as rector of the Syrian Orthodox seminary in Södertälje, is to educate the priests of the future.

Hear him tell what he thinks the Syrian Orthodox Church, with over 40 churches in the country, needs to do to not only survive, but also grow.
