It was 50 years ago, April 5, 1971. 343 women, famous or anonymous, admitted having aborted illegally and asked for the legalization of abortion.

A manifesto which was a major step in France on

the road to the right to abortion

.

Today, 343 French personalities are mobilizing again for this cause.

The singer Vanessa Paradis, the actress Isabelle Carré or even the former minister Najat Vallaud-Belkacem signed

this column published this Sunday in the

JDD

.

Patriarchy slows down our choices

 "

“

We have not yet acquired full ownership of our bodies.

The patriarchy slows down our choices

”, they write, demanding the extension of the legal periods of access to abortion.

Today, the deadline for an abortion is 12 weeks pregnant and makes women dependent on doctors in the first place, who decide if there is a medical reason to terminate a pregnancy beyond that.

Also dependent on their "

socio-economic situation

", still judge the signatories of this appeal because those who have the means will have abortions abroad.

Two more weeks don't change a thing

Last February, a bill to extend this period to 14 weeks revived debates, including within the medical community.

Israel Nisand, president of the National College of Gynecologists and Obstetricians, had also spoken out against.

According to him, the size of the fetus would make the procedure complicated.

An opinion that does not share the National Consultative Ethics Committee and many doctors, for whom two more weeks do not change anything.

The text finally had to be withdrawn in

the

face of

the avalanche of amendments tabled by the right.
