According to the "British List of Martyrs in Zhuji": Xu Zhenghai was born in September 1927 in a peasant family in Mayi Village, Majian Town, Zhuji. He joined the Jinxiao Detachment in March 1945. In war, for bravery in combat, he made a third-class merit once.
In January 1949, he served as the platoon leader of the 3rd company of the 179th regiment of the 60th division of the 20th Army.
In April of the same year, he died in the battle of Sanjiang Camp in Yangzhong County, Jiangsu Province.
