Fraudsters have begun using a new scheme to deceive Russians in order to embezzle their money.

They offer to issue a "deposit at a high percentage", while sending a link to a fake site designed in the style of an online bank page.

The details of the fraudulent scheme are set out in a letter from Sberbank, which was read in RIA Novosti.

Yekaterina Kilyusheva, head of the information security analytics department at Positive Technologies, explained to the agency that fraudsters can contact victims both via e-mail and call them by phone.

According to the specialist, the attackers report an alleged action that is not on the site, and offer to arrange a deposit at a higher percentage.

In the future, they send a link to a fake authentication page, where they need to enter a login and password from an online bank.

Kilyusheva noted that the scammers turned to the topic of deposits, since Russians are aware of the inadmissibility of transferring confirmation codes from sms and push notifications to other persons.

At the same time, according to her, customers may not see anything suspicious when entering credentials on a fake page.

Information security expert Alexander Vlasov stated that as virtual services develop, fraudsters will try to get logins, passwords, access to citizens' accounts in online services.

"Now you won't catch anyone offline, and the scammers really want to take possession of our money," the expert said in an interview with RT.

He noted that this "race" continues all the time.

Banks report a new type of fraud, notify their customers, while attackers come up with new ways to deceive.

“Citizens need to understand that, firstly, if they are asked to enter some data or say it over the phone, this should not be done in any case.

Second: if a newsletter comes with a link, then you should not be lazy, but go to the bank's website yourself and see if there is such a page there.

We know that you can add one letter to the word "Sberbank" and get on the fake one, "the specialist emphasized.

In turn, information security expert Alexei Lukatsky, in an interview with RT, said that many legal entities had previously encountered fake pages of banks' websites, where it was necessary to indicate account data, after which this information was used to enter the personal accounts of banks with subsequent unauthorized transfer from there funds.

“As for individuals, such a scheme is used abroad, where fake clone sites of banks have been created for a long time, after which usernames and passwords are stolen,” Lukatsky said.

According to him, the attackers switched to looking for new schemes, as citizens became more vigilant and stopped believing stories about bank security services and calling codes from SMS.

At the same time, he noted that fraudsters often use psychological methods.

In particular, he spoke about the attempts of the attackers to mention law enforcement agencies in their schemes, as well as to send falsified documents to the victims, for example, the non-existent decision of the investigator to initiate a case.

“This all works for the fact that a person begins to be afraid, and when he is afraid, he makes mistakes.

Under such pressure, he discloses confidential information about himself, his account, performs an action that the fraudsters want, ”the expert explained.

Such a technique, Lukatsky continued, makes a person do what he would never do in ordinary life, but in a conflict environment and time pressure, he performs these actions.

Note that in early March, the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Moscow warned of a fraudulent scheme that involves installing an application on a smartphone.

According to the press service of the department, the attackers offer to install a mobile application for remote access, claiming that it supposedly helps to save funds on the card or is simply necessary as an additional application to the mobile bank.

Earlier, RT published statistics from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, according to which an increase in the number of crimes in the field of information and telecommunication technologies was noted at the beginning of 2021.

In particular, in January such activity increased by 32% compared to the same period of the previous year.
